2013 Freightliner Cascadia Evolution Apu Wiring Diagram

Introduced back in 2007, the Freightliner Cascadia broke new ground in the on-highway Class 8 truck industry in terms of fuel efficiency, uptime, and cost of ownership. It was based on the all-new Heavy-Duty Engine platform and promised significant fuel economy thanks to optimized aerodynamics and an extensive use of lightweight aluminum. And at a time of high fuel prices, restrictive emissions regulations, expensive repairs, and lack of maintenance technicians, Freightliner's flagship truck was a huge success with both fleet customers and individual owner-operators. It offers a range of strong powertrains and Day Cab, Raised Roof, and XT cab options. Regardless of the configuration, the Freightliner Cascadia is built to maximize driver comfort and productivity, which are crucial factors when it comes to bottom line improvements.

The Freightliner Cascadia was the first truck tested in the company's proprietary wind tunnel – the one and only of its kind designed specifically for Class 8 trucks – all to offer a low drag coefficient for fuel savings. The use of aluminum for cab components allowed for a significantly lower weight over steel. The hood, bumper, and fenders are lighter and more streamlined to reduce drag coefficient to a minimum. As a result, the fuel economy was increased by 3% compared to previous models. At launch, the Cascadia came with four engine options, including the Detroit DD13, Detroit DD15, Detroit DD16 and the Cummins ISX15, with 350 - 600 horsepower directed through a wide range of transmissions. In order to further cut fuel consumption and prolong engine service life, Detroit units are supplemented by the SCR technology. Manual and automated transmissions are sourced from Eaton, with manual ones featuring hydraulic clutches to ease gear shifting. Automatic gearboxes come from Allison. In 2013, Freightliner launched the Cascadia Evolution, an even more fuel-efficient model offering a 7% improvement in fuel mileage compared to the regular Cascadia. The technology behind these savings is, first of all, the company's RunSmart Predictive Cruise system that adopts the truck's speed according to the road ahead based on GPS and NAVTEQ data. Additionally, the Evolution is fitted with a modified DD15 unit that features optimized engine management, an asymmetric turbo, high-pressure injection, and a variable-speed water pump.

In 2017, Freightliner unveiled a heavily-revised second-generation Cascadia. Its aerodynamic shape is essentially the same, but there are plenty of improvements throughout the exterior that further reduce drag. These include a remodeled bumper with a built-in air deflector, a sloped hood with aerodynamic mirrors, and a more swept-back profile. Even more aerodynamic features, including longer side extenders and flared side fairings are available as part of Aero and AeroX packages. The powertrain lineup was updated to improve fuel economy. The DT12 transmission got super-finished gears and low-viscosity oil to reduce friction. It also teams with the most up-to-date powertrain management system (IPM4) which uses GPS data to adapt powertrain performance to the upcoming road conditions. The front suspension was revised, featuring long taper-leaf springs for a more comfortable ride and better cornering, while the relocated steering gear allows for more precise steering and reduces driver fatigue. The interior is packed with improvements that include better cabin insulation, more steering wheel mounted controls, new gauge layout, and the newly designed Driver's Loft dinette. Safety features range from full LED headlights to Active Brake Assist.

The Cascadia is engineered with ease of maintenance and reduced repair frequency in mind. All of the Freightliner Cascadia accessories and parts are designed for maximum longevity, starting with extended-lifespan headlight bulbs and ending with durable HVAC components. The hood opens easily to allow access to the engine and accessories. There are also intelligent diagnostics system as well as the Connect Virtual Technician telematics that connects the driver and the fleet operator in real time. When designing the Cascadia, the engineers at Freightliner made every possible effort to maximize the bottom line and enable fleets to haul more, with less fuel consumption and less downtime.
